Health Innovation Challenge Fund

The HIC Fund is a joint funding partnership between the Wellcome Trust and Department of Health.

Its objective is to:

  1. Stimulate the development of innovative products, technologies and interventions for the benefit of patients in the NHS and beyond
  2. Target unmet needs in healthcare and seek specific solutions from UK companies, academia and clinicians via a succession of themed calls for proposals
  3. Support projects that have reached ‘proof-of-concept’ and have the potential to be market ready within 3-5 years

 

Current Theme - Infection Response Systems: Development and application of technology for prevention, diagnosis, intervention and control of infection

Infectious diseases account for over a fifth of human deaths globally and a quarter of all morbidity. In the UK also, infection poses a constant threat to the health of the nation.

The Health Innovation Challenge Fund (HIC Fund) is making available up to £15m for healthcare innovators who can offer solutions for improved detection, prediction, prevention and management of infectious disease threats and contribute to the health of the nation through better clinical management systems.
